Misoprostol 200 mg

Misoprostol is a man-made prostaglandin used to treat gastrointestinal ulcers. Misoprostol does this by reducing the effects of stomach acid and it takes the place of defending substances in the stomach that are introverted by non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). These NSAIDs are usually aspirin, ibuprofen etc which are used mostly to treat arthritis. If a person is being treated with NSAIDs like aspirin, ibuprofen or ketoprofen, Misoprostol in that case is used to avoid the development of ulcers in the stomach during the treatment period. The drug is suitable for people with high risk of ulcers and the aged patients with affiliated debilitate diseases. Misoprostol has many other uses other than this.

How should one use Misoprostol?

Misoprostol is a tablet to be taken by mouth. It is generally taken four times a day, subsequent to meals and before bedtime while taking food. One has to take Misoprostol on a regular basis in order to achieve the best effects. Women are not advised to take their first dosage in anticipation of the second or third day of their menstruation. This is in order to be certain that they are not pregnant. Women must not stop taking Misoprostol with no prescription from their doctor.

As earlier stated, Misoprostol is a prostaglandin used for healing and deterrence of stomach ulcers. Once a patient starts taking Misoprostol, the drug begins to encourage increased emission of the protective mucus lining on the gastrointestinal region and increases blood flow in the region, thus promoting mucosal functioning. It is at times prescribed in contrary with NSAIDs to check for the incidence of gastric ulcer, which is a common undesirable effect of the NSAIDs.
